No SMOKE!

Can you believe it? Yes, they are banning smoking is public areas. This is  very great law that is being passed through cities slowly. Smoking which is killing most of the people in the world is Boeing stopped. not only is smoking bad for you but you also harm the people around you. Smoking is become a very serious death factor in the world. 1 out  3 people smoke cigarettes. Look to the person on your right. Now to your left. One of you three are smokers. this law is very good idea because they can finally at least try to reduce the second hand smoke victims.  Hermosa Beach along with  Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Beverly hills, also have similar laws restricitng public smokers. I'm sure that all the nonsmokers are very happy with these new restrictions because the are slowly but surely spreading. No one i know likes to walk around smelling tobacco. It doesn't even smell good! all smokers should realize that this law is for punishment it is to secure the safety of all the other people in the world who do not smoke. I believe that this law can change the amount a person smokes and hopefully get them to quit fully.

letter From Birmingham CIty Jail

This letter was written by Martin Luther King Jr. He wrote this letter on April 16, 1963. Martin Luther Kind was in Birmingham jail during this time. He wrote his letter on the margins of the newspaper. Like his other speeches MLK's subject for this letter is about civil rights and freedom. MLK's tone in the letter was calm, emotional and very encouraging. This speech is encouraging to many other black people during this time because MLK is writing from jail. This shows his determination to getting rights and freedom. MLK's purpose of this letter is to inform the people about how the blacks are being treated. MLK brings very emotional examples during his informative speech to make the readers really feel what the Negros have felt. He also tries to persuade the reader that the blacks were not being treated fairly. He tries to capture the readers moral side by making them think what is the moral thing to do. Using emotional and moral values in his speech MLK letter later becomes known world wide. Police Brutality, Social Injustice,Nonviolence, Segregation are all part of this speech as well.

David Barseghian

Most of you do not know who this is. His name was David Barseghian and he was only a high school student like us. The only difference is that David has been dead since Friday October 14. I grew up with David ever since I was 5 years old. Our fathers play soccer together and that is where I meet this special kid. Even though I lost contact with David for over 3 years I must say this was very sad news. My father told me about what happened on Wednesday five days after his death. I could not believe him so I had to see if there was any kind of news on my old childhood friend. Well, unfortunately it was true. This article was written by Dakota Smith from the Daily News.

David Barseghian died Friday afternoon when he jumped from a 18 story building at West Trillium  and Canoga Ave. LAPD Jeff Brisco says that David Abruptly left school at 1 P.M. He crashed his car in a tree. Unharmed he walked to the Building. David was found holding his cross before he jumped. David Barseghian was very talented person. He did great in school and managed a band. People should realize the precious life they have been granted. Even though my old friend fell victim to dieing at a early age and not being able to live his life he will truly be missed. Teens our age should realize the opportunities life has to offer us even though we see stories about teens our age die almost daily.

Malcolm X

I am writting about Aram O's and Ahrin M's speech. For all of you who looked like you were paying attention but really were not, I am here to tell you about their speech. These two partners wrote about a very famous person in the black history. Malcolm X. They both did a great job describing to us what his speech was about. The speakerof the speech was Malcolm X, the subject of the speech was freedom from the white rule, and freedom for blacks. Malcolm X's tone was very passionate and aggressive. He tries to make the black people stand up and let their voices be heard. He said that if they wanted freedom they had to get it, no one was going to give it to them. He was also trying to say that if they do not  fight the situation will not change.

Malcolm X's speech was very strong because of the ethical and emotional devices. He was trying to make a point that inequality was not ethical and every man should be free and equal. He also used emotion to inspire the black people to fight for their rights. Like his famous quote " the future belongs to those who prepare for it today" this is a very emotional quote. Its meaning is that who ever works hard for their future now, is very likely to have a good future. The blacks never gave up and worked hard for their rights which is why they are free and equal for a very long time.

Straw into gold!

"Straw into Gold" is a autobiography written by Sandra Cisneros. She explains about her life experiences and how shes always facing tough challenges. Sandra talks about all of her achievements as well. She talks about the impossible task she has been handed, which she compares to the fairy tale where a woman is forced to spin straw into gold. Even though she does not make it perfect she gets her job done. This autobiography teaches us to never give up when the going gets tough.Sandra also explains her past and how it has effected her life. When she went to school her grades did not correspond with her grade. Her father was a emotional person but her mother was a strong woman. She also mentions how she went against her fathers word and left her house before she was married. She felt ashamed about it but did not let it get in her way to success. "Along the way there is straw for the taking. With a little imagination, it can be spun into gold."

Sinner or Perfect?

I can bet no one in this world can say they are morally perfect. If you say you are then your lying. In the autobiography Benjamin Franklin tries to reach his goal. Moral perfection. Every week he tried to perfect one virtue, and he only moved on when he felt he perfected the one he was studying. Then he would start a new week working on the old and new virtues together. I believe that no one has the ability to reach this goal, but who am I to judge. I believe that the five virtues I need to work and are most important for me are:

Silence- speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversations.
This virtue means that you should think before you say something and that you should only speak important information or conversation.

Resolution- resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.
This virtue means that if you say you are going to do something, you should do it. Always set goals and try to reach them, even though it might be difficult.

Frugality-make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing.
This in my opinion is one of the most important virtues. You shouldn't take time or money for granted. Always be wise about your wasting.

Cleanliness- tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloths, or habitation.
This is another very important virtue. This tries to teach someone to be clean in every way. Internally, externally and your habitat. Internally means you shouldn't drink or dirty your body, externally is you should shower and be clean. Your habitat, the place you stay should also be clean.

Tranquility- be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.
This means that you should accept failure and accept the hard times that will come your way.

Even though nobody can reach moral perfection, you can try to reach close to it. This is not a easy task.If you want to be good and change some things in your life or behaviors, you should try to work on the other eight virtues.
